Taffeta. Rhinestones. Corsages.
With prom season in full swing, it's easy to get caught up in all the prama (prom drama). Like most girls, I have been thinking about prom since I was in elementary school. When I was little, prom seemed to be this far off, extravagant event that was going to be one of the best nights of my life. Now that it's only a few weeks away, it has become this impossible quest to make an otherwise ordinary Friday night special and perfect in every way. Finding the perfect dress, the perfect date, the perfect group with all your friends, where to go to dinner, transportation, post prom, after parties and more...and it's not even just about being asked anymore- not only do you want to be asked by someone attractive and fun, but he also has to pull out all the stops and ask you in some extraordinary and totally unique way. What if you end up wearing the same dress as someone else? What if you don't get asked? What if you can't find a group?
Wasn't this supposed to be fun?
Yes! And just because you're stressing now doesn't mean you can't still have your extraordinary prom night. If you're lucky enough not to be planning your group's prom, don't forget to endlessly thank the people who are because odds are they're stressing ten times more than you are (shout outs to Megan and Allison for gracefully taking the prom reigns! Cannot thank you guys enough). If you are planning prom, relax! Considering how much effort you're putting into it, you will figure everything out and it will be a great night. If your friends don't appreciate your hard work now, they probably will later. And if they don't later...well that's their problem.
Honestly, prom isn't that big of a deal. The drama that surrounds prom isn't worth it, and the hours of stress you're likely putting in to it definitely isn't worth it. Believe it or not, there is life after prom. Madonna, James Franco, and Miley Cyrus didn't even go to their proms and they're doing just fine.
Not everyone can go to prom with Brad Pitt and be crowned prom queen...but that doesn't mean you can't feel like it. If you stop for a minute and remember that this is your senior prom, one of the last nights you're going to be with all of your friends, going to high school, and living at home, you'll realize that this is your night and you'll remember why you wanted to go in the first place.
Things are going to work out, I PROMise.
Oh, and thanks for asking me to prom Jason! I'm super excited to go with you!
