Over winter break I had an amazing opportunity to be a marketing intern for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, a non-profit organization giving support to people living with Crohn's and Colitis. This opportunity was amazing for me. Not only did it involve my major, marketing, but I was also helping people with Colitis, a disease my mom has suffered with her entire life. This internship had me thinking: what else could I do to support non-profit organizations? While surfing around the internet the other day for internship and volunteer opportunities with non-profit organizations, I came across this bracelet:
Dream for 21 bracelets were made by a 20 year old girl, Austin Spivey, whose goal is to grant 21 dreams through the Dream Foundation by her 21st birthday. Austin is selling these bracelets and 100% of the proceeds are going straight to the Dream Foundation.
At this moment I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to create a product that people would love, not only to make a profit myself, but to donate to a deserving charity.
Now considering I am only 19 years old, this idea is a little far-fetched. So what can I do for now? SHOP! Every girl loves to shop, and if you are shopping at the right places then you can be donating to charity simultaneously!
Aside from the Dream for 21 bracelets (which I will most definitely be purchasing!) there are many other products you can buy that donate portions of their profits to charity. Another jewelry option that also donates to the Dream Foundation is Stoney Clover Lane.
Stoney Clover Lane sells extremely trendy bracelets and 25% of every purchase goes directly to the Dream Foundation. These bracelets have a huge following, including celebrities like Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. Through their bracelet sales they have been able to raise a big chunk of money and fulfill many dreams for the Dream Foundation.
All in all, you don't have to be a huge philanthropist in order to make a difference. Yes, donating and volunteering is great, but just by shopping at the right places you are making a huge difference and giving back to the community!
