Whether you are done with finals and already on summer vacay (lucky!) or still studying for finals, make some time to pamper yourself. My favorite thing to do to unwind and relax is paint my nails! My recent nail polish obsession has inspired me to compile a list of the hottest nail trends for you to try this summer.

Pastels – Spring is all about pastels. One of my personal favorite shades of spring is the essie nail polish featured above. (From left to right: essie “To Buy or Not to Buy,” $8; ciaté “Strawberry Milkshake,” $15; Julep “Blake”, $14)

Pistachio -  Who knew light greens would make a comeback this year? Pistachio, mint green, and jade hues look fabulous against dark colored clothing. Take it from Essie founder Essie Weingarten, who says “2012 is all about the color green.” (From left to right: OPI “Go on Green!” $8; essie “Mint Candy Apple,” $8; Revlon “Minted”, $4.99)

Tangerine - The 2012 Pantone color of the year goes to the vibrant tangerine. Pair this nail color with jeans, a white shirt, and a bright orange cardigan! (From left to right: Sephora by OPI “Hi-Def,” $8; nails inc. “Porchester Place,” $9.50; China Glaze “Riveting”, $6)

Beige – Matching your nail polish to your skin tone is all the rage thanks to what’s been seen on runways recently. (From left to right: Dior “Beige Lotus,” $23; butter “Yummy Mummy,” $14; essie “Pillow Talk”, $8)

Blue - As classic as red, blue can never go out of style. Play up different shades from denim blue to sky blue. (From left to right: Illamasqua “Muse,” $14; ciaté “Skinny Jeans,” $15; Thakoon for NARS “Kutki”, $18)

Brights – Bright nails add a pop of color to your LBD (little black dress) or any solid color clothing. Try matching your nail polish with an accessory of the same color, like a ring or clutch to really make the color pop. (From left to right: Sephora by OPI “It’s Totally Karma,” $9.50; Thakoon for NARS “Amchoor,” $18; Illamasqua “Collide”, $14)

Glitter - Glitter can add a total glam effect to any outfit. Make sure your glitter matches the underlying nail color, you don’t want to resonate grade school! (From left to right: Orly “Tiara,” $8.50; China Glaze “Full Spectrum,” $6; Sephora by OPI “18k Gold”, $30, uses real gold!)

Coral – Beautiful paired with basically everything, it’s no wonder this color is one of the most popular colors of the season. (From left to right: OPI “I’m Wired,” $9.50; Sally Hansen “Snappy Sorbet,” $4.99; essie “Tart Deco”, $8)

Crackled/magnetic/shattered – Different nail effects have been on the rise. Crackle, magnetic, or shattered nail polishes create unique and one-of-a-kind designs. (From left to right: Sally Hansen “Crackle Overcoat: Fuchsia Shock,” $9.50; Sally Hansen “Snappy Sorbet,” $6; OPI Shatter Collection “Gold Shatter”, $8)
