As senior year comes to a close and all the college paperwork is getting filed in, the last summer before embarking on a new life is spread before us. As I ponder what plans to make and how to enjoy my last free summer, I realize that in a few months I will have totally new living arrangements. As a kid who moved around a lot and a mother that was a stickler for clean walls and living space, I was never really given the chance to decorate my room the way that I truly wanted. Going into my first year of college, I knew I had to change all of that.

I decided to ask other future freshman and seasoned college students about how they decorated their rooms and how to design their room and stay on “college” budget aka inexpensive.  Some stores I was recommended to included:

-          Walmart

-          Target

-          Ikea

-          Pottery Barn

-          Pier One

Other students told me to go the “recycled route” and hit up yard sales, estate sales, thrift stores, consignment shops, and boutiques for unique and economically priced furniture and decorations. Websites like Pinterest and stumbleupon are great for inspiration for your room.

Lastly, remember to have fun with it! Decorating your dorm should be a fun and creative experience, not a chore. Remember: you are decorating your room, not cluttering it. The room is already small. You just want to make it feel more like your own.
