Would you rather have the cool room or the boring room? The room that everyone hangs out in or the room that no one wants to even walk by? Personally, I’d want the room that people want to actually hang out in. But it’s also good to know how to get everyone out when you actually need to (God forbid) study.

When I first found out what dorm I was in freshman year, I cried. Yes, I cried. Embarrassing right? I heard that all of my friends were in one dorm on one side of campus and I was in another dorm. Sure, my dorm had the better location; but still I was freaking out! When it came time to move in, I had to make the best of it.

Soon enough, I began making friends on my own floor and the floor above me. When it came to Sunday nights and Entourage was on TV, I invited people to watch it in my room. It became a ‘thing’ that people in my dorm did each week. A type of ritual. Everyone would come to my room and we would all watch Vince, Drama, Turtle, E, and Ari together. It was a blast.

So what’s the best way to make your room the hangout room? Invite people over! Invite them to watch TV, or chill before you go out, or to even just listen to music or watch Youtube videos.

But what do you do when you want them to leave, but they are NOT getting the hint? Believe me, I have run into this problem multiple times. There is an easy technique. It’s called being blunt. All you have to say is, “Guys, I am glad we do this weekly, but I’ve GOT to get some work done (or go to bed, or call my high school friend who I’ve been blowing off). I’ll see you guys later.”

It’s always better to have the hangout room, especially if you get lazy (like most college kids) and you don’t want to travel around to other people’s rooms. You can just make everyone come to you. Easy peasy.
