I’m sure you all are so excited that Spring Break is close to being here. You’re over the stress of studying and being at school and ready to let loose and enjoy yourself. ME TOO. Whether you decide to travel with friends or relax at home, BE SAFE. Here are some quick reminders:

Alcohol. I’m sure everyone can agree that alcohol can make or break a night. According to Your Health Today by Michael Teague, Sara Mackenzie, and David Rosenthal, 83% of college students drink alcohol. I’m not going to bore you with percentages, but 18% of drinkers get behind the wheel after drinking, and 12% of drunk driving accidents are caused by college-aged or younger students. Protect yourself, and protect others. Drink responsibly. It could save not only your own life, but others lives as well. Putting getting behind the wheel aside, make sure you know your limit. Drinking too much can cause sickness to the point of hospitalization. Most people think, “that will never happen to me”, but life surprises you sometimes. So be careful with your alcohol if you choose to drink!

If you decide to go out to unfamiliar bars, be careful with who you associate with. A lot of sketchy people like to take advantage of young people because they know college students are on Spring Break and are easy targets! Especially the girls out there. Make sure you’re always with a friend, especially if you’re in an unfamiliar place. The “buddy system” we all learned in kindergarten still applies.

Be conscious about where you set things down when going out to a party or at a bar. I don’t know about you, but I spent a lot on my Coach wristlets and iPhone. I don’t want to make the mistake of leaving it and being devastated when I find out that it’s stolen! I usually remind my friends to check with me before we leave anywhere that I have everything I came with, because I tend to lose things all the time.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe Spring Break 2012! Oh and don’t forget to stop by Dormify’s travel section for fun and essential items needed for your trip!

PS. Just a second reminder to always have a buddy with you. I’m sure most of you have heard of Lauren Spierer. She disappeared last June after walking home from a bar alone at Indiana University. Make yourself aware of things that could happen.
